Emphasizing on its off-road roots, the new 2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport made a splash, literally, in Paris when it made its debut a day before the motor show. The SUV was brought in on an 80-meter barge on the River Seine in central Paris with actress and supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley behind the wheel.
Now that’s a memorable, British-style debut for the new generation Disco, which if its name is to be believed has gone all sporty. Actually, the Sport will be followed by the normal models with even greater off-road prowess. But seeing what this car is capable of, they probably shouldn’t bother making another variant.
Another interesting, and very British, feature of the Land Rover Discovery Sport debut ceremony was some giant-sized Wellington boots, a pair of them in Union Jack colors. Land Rover says they “represent the family-friendly SUV’s versatile 5+2 seating layout along with Land Rover’s unique take on outdoor life.”
As impressive as the boots and the whole barge effort were, the presence of Rosie Huntington kind of overshadowed everything else. The actress caused quite a stir posing next to the not at all feminine Land Rover.
