Ferrari today revealed the first official details and pictures of what we used to call LaFerrari XX, which is now officially called the Ferrari FXX K. It is the hard-core track-only version of the Ferrari LaFerrari, and it has 1,050 horsepower.
Unveiled at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi during the Finali Mondiali event, Ferrari FXX K is, to all intents and purposes, a kick in the teeth for the McLaren P1 GTR. While the big Brit looks remarkably similar to the road-going version, Ferrari engineers took care to make the FXX substantially different from the already bonkers LaFerrari. So it is easier to justify the massive, and as yet undisclosed, price tag of the Ferrari.
Sold only to Ferrari’s Corse Clienti members, the FXX K is powered by a modified version of the V12/KERS Hybrid system of the standard car, featuring new camshafts and a modified valve train with mechanical rather than hydraulic tappets, as well as new intake manifolds and exhaust system. It makes 1,050 hp and over 900 Nm of torque.
The electronics are different too, chiefly in terms of the modes with a new 4-setting Manettino: Qualify, for maximum performance within a limited number of laps; Long Run to optimise performance consistency; Manual Boost for instant maximum torque delivery; and Fast Charge, for a fast recharge of the car’s battery.
Ferrari FXX K is a downforce beast thanks to an unbelievably cool-looking aero kit consisting of larger front splitter, active wings and active flaps which can deploy individually depending on the situation. Compared to the standard car, FXX K benefits from a 50% improvement in downforce in the low drag configuration and a 30% improvement in the more aggressive downforce configuration, resulting in a figure of 540 kg at 200 km/h.
