Only a hint by Dr Dieter Zetsche, the supreme boss of all things Mercedes, about the possibility of a Maybach SUV was enough to send the entire auto world into a kind of frenzy, trying to speculate what it would be like. What you see here is most likely it.

The Maybach SUV will be based on an existing Mercedes-Benz model – in the same way that the Maybach S600 is based on the W222 S-Class – and the next Mercedes GL, officially called the GLS, is the most likely candidate to be promoted to the rank of Maybach. This renderings tries to envision what sort of features we can expect from this high-end off-roader.

Since the Maybach SUV will be part GLS, part S600, the designer had an easier job coming up with design cues he thought might be used on the production version. So we have the bulky, boxy body of a GL, combined with the fascia and grilles of the S-Class Maybach, and some pretty fancy wheels.

Of course, the best part of every Maybach, SUV or sedan, is the interior. If the Maybach S-Class is any indication, the SUV too will boast a familiar design, with tons of high-end leather and other exotic material lavished on it to make it look and feel extra-premium.
