Yesterday was the crossover day at the New York Auto Show, as a number of new and updated mini SUVs made their debuts. Besides the new Lexus RX we had this, the 2016 Infiniti QX50 which will take the U.S. market by storm this fall, boasting an extended wheelbase, increased interior room and refined exterior design.
The design of the new 2016 Infiniti QX50 gives it a more unified look by bringing it closer to the Q50 and Q70 models. The main features of the updated look include new LED lights, side sill design, a new rear fascia, LED side mirror turn signals and 19-inch wheel design. What’s more, the wheelbase has grown by 3.2 inches, which means the car is more spacious in the back and has more luggage capacity as well.
Dubbed an “urban explorer” the 2016 Infiniti QX50 is powered by a 325-horsepower 3.7-liter V6 engine featuring a 7-speed automatic transmission and optional all-wheel-drive. That doesn’t seem like an awfully efficient arrangement for a car designed for the urban environment. There is no way something with 3.7 liter capacity is light on fuel.
Infiniti themselves are pretty confident of the new car’s success though: “The QX50 was one of the first luxury compact crossovers, foreshadowing one of the hottest segments in the auto industry right now. It was the first vehicle to offer our innovative Around View Monitor. And it remains one of the most powerful and versatile personal crossovers you can buy. The enhancements for 2016 keep it fresh and competitive,” said Infiniti Design Director Alfonso Albaisa.
