Road-Going McLaren P1 GTR in the Works

Emboldened by the enormous success they have achieved in a rather short period of time producing road-going super cars, McLaren Automotive is now planning further expansion of their lineup. Following the recent launch of the 540C, the British firm is now said to be working on a GT4 version of that car, plus a road-legal version of the McLaren P1 GTR race car.

Well, to be more precise, it is not McLaren who is going to release the road-going P1 GTR, but rather they will be converted for road use by British specialist Lanzante under licensee from McLaren.

Lanzante specializes in converting McLaren F1 GTR to street legal cars owner can enjoy on public roads. Now following an extraordinary demand by people who have bought the track-only McLaren P1 GTR, they are going to launch a new program to modify and homologate the new hyper car for road use, initially for Europe and the Middle East roads.

So if we’re getting it right, the people who have just spent £1.98 Million on a McLaren P1 GTR want to give another large sum of money to Lanzante to turn that car back into a normal P1. Granted, the GTR is about 100 PS more powerful and it looks cooler what with that aero kit. But you can have your normal P1 tuned and fitted a similar aero kit, can’t you? And it would probably cost about a £1 million less than this conversion malarkey.
