Porsche has reportedly trademarked the name GT5 for an all-new product they have in the pipeline. The company has declined to comment on the case, but sources close to them suggest the moniker will be used for a super hot motorsport-developed model.
Now, those of you who know your Porsches know that they name their hard-core sports car depending on the FIA racing class they belong to. So GT1 models are road-going versions of the LMP1 endurance cars, while GT2 and GT3 models are civilian versions of GT race cars fielded in various FIA events all around the globe.
The thing is, there is no FIA GT5 class, at least not yet. That begs the question what this Porsche GT5 might be. Some say it could be a flagship version of either the Panamera or the Macan. It could also be the Ferrari 458 fighter super car we’ve been promised for a long time, or maybe even a modern-day 928.
So it remains to be seen what this mysterious GT5 thing really is. The important thing is, one way or another we are getting an all-new Porsche models and that in itself is a cause for celebration.
