As it turns out Hyundai is serious about going smaller still with their crossovers, planning a sub-ix35 model based on the i20 hatchback platform. It’s called the Hyundai Creta and it’s been previewed ahed of its release later this year in these official sketches.

You may not see the Hyundai Creta in Europe and America since it is pitched as a “global” model and that usually means it will be offered only in the emerging markets like China, India, and Thailand. It also means the car will be classified in the economy class, featuring a low level of luxury amenities and some rubbish engines.

If that’s the case it would be a great shame because as you can see Hyundai Creta is a decent-looking crossover. It looks pretty much identical to the ix45 Santa Fe at the front, what with those headlights and the hexagonal grille, only it’s better because it has three doors. And who doesn’t like a three-door SUV?

The Creta also boasts a nice interior design modeled closely on that of the i20. All it needs really to be accepted in Europe is a good engine – we’re thinking the 1.6 liter Turbo out of the Veloster Turbo – and it could be very successful.
