As far celebrity product endorsement goes, what Porsche and tennis star Maria Sharapova have going on is probably the best kind. They just match each other beautifully, as we have seen a number of times in the pictures they release of Maria posing with various Porsche models.

On her way to the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Pre-Wimbledon Party, Maria Sharapova stopped at Porsche Centre Mayfair last night to check out the new Porsche Boxster Spyder. OK, so it was a preordained publicity stunt. But who cares. What resulted is just an awesome thing to look at.

In truth though, Porsche Boxster Spyder is not the kind of car a classy lady like Maria would consider as he daily driver – she has a bespoke Panamera for that. The Boxster Spyder is a hard-core sports car best suited for weekend track days. It doesn’t have a roof as such and many of the luxury amenities the standard car is blessed with are deleted here in the interest of lightness. That’s what make the Spyder light and agile and great fun to drive. Well, that, and a 3.8-litre, 375 hp engine.

Maria Sharapova commented: “This is huge fun – truly thrilling. I love that this new Boxster Spyder is like a classic sports car, but at the same time feels so modern and sophisticated. It’s a fantastic car and I need to get one!”
