Following its dynamic debut at the 2015 Goodwood Fesival of Speed, the new Aston Martin Vulcan track car is now gearing up for its first gig outside the UK. It is a guest appearance at TOTAL 24 Hours of Spa this weekend in which the Vulcan will two flying laps of the circuit.
Not sure what that is supposed to accomplish exactly, but in any case it is good to see Aston is keeping the Vulcan busy and allowing the fans to see more of it. The limited edition, million quid racing car is not something you can spot on the street, as they are making only a handful of them and they will be locked away in private, air conditioned garages.
The brief appearance of Aston Martin Vulcan at Spa will also be a moral booster for the V12 Vantage GT3 racing cars that will actually compete at the event. The cars are fielded in the PRO-AM class by two of the top Aston Martin Racing customer teams, Leonard Motorsport AMR and Oman Racing by Motorbase.
The 800-hp, V12-powered, carbon fiber-bodied Aston Martin Vulcan will be driven at Spa by works driver Darren Turner: “It’s been amazing to have been involved in this project from the beginning,” said Turner. “From the conceptual sketches through to working with the designers on driver ergonomics, it is a fascinating process to be part of.It was very early days for the car when we first ran it at Goodwood Festival of Speed, but we certainly made a good impression and now we get to show the car in its most natural environment. I’m looking forward to our laps prior to the race and then being able to watch one of the best 24-hour events on the calendar.”
