Evo Le Mans Diary: Ferrari 458 Speciale & Porsche 991 GT3

It feels like yesterday when the Ferrari 458 Speciale was introduced, and it feels like two hours when Porsche released the 991 GT3 to rival it. But such is the pace at which the auto industry moves forward that as we speak new versions of both cars are being tested around the world.

That is not to say there isn’t much life left in these two bad boys. Oh no. They are still relevant enough to Evo Magazine to take them on what can only be described as the ultimate road trip to Circuit de la Sarthe which is the home of Le Mans:

Ferrari 458 Speciale will soon be replaced by a new version based on the 488 GTB and the biggest change it will undergo will be the introduction of a turbocharged engine. The rest of the upgrades, compared with a normal GTB, will include stuff like sharper traction control, lighter weight, and sportier suspension setup.

Porsche 991 GT3 will live longer than the Speciale in its current format. But as we know there is a brand-new version of the 911 in the works – it’s virtually ready for debut, in fact – and as is the case with new 911 models, in a year or two it will spawn a brand-new GT3 model. Cars are becoming more and more like smartphones in the sense that by the time you make a decision to buy one, something newer and more amazing has come along.
