We haven’t heard much about the Renault RS01 race car, designed and built for a one-make racing series, since it was officially introduced last year. But now prior to a World Series By Renault at Le Mans circuit, RenaultSport let loose a whole bunch of them on the track, providing viewers with ample drooling opportunity.
It’s a pity the Renault RS01 is just a race car. I mean, the thing looks so good, Renault could easily turn it into a production sports car and call it, I don’t know, Megane Coupe? The RS01 already has the front and rear end look of the new Megane. Just imagine how sweet a mid-engines Renault sports car with those look would be…
Of course, if they ever decided to turn Renault RS01 into a production car they will have to come up with a new engine for it. The race car features a twin-turbo Nismo V6 unit with over 500 horsepower, which is way too hot for a road-going version. And the 1.6 unit Renault uses in their latest hot hatches is too small. The sweet spot would be a 2.0 liter turbo with around 300 horsepower.
The race car also features a Dallara carbon monocoque and steel roll cage, an aero kit consisting of front blade and splitter, stepped flat bottom, rear diffuser and rear wing, Sadev sequential 7-speed transmission, and double wishbone suspension with pushrods and Öhlins 2-way adjustable dampers.
