So a few days ago we were treated to the first official details and pictures of the new 2016 Porsche 991 and was pleasantly surprised that it now boasts a twin-turbo flat-six engine in the base Carrera and Carrera S variants. The new unit is more powerful than the previous normally aspirated engines, so there is worry about the performance. But how does it sound?
That is a question that has now been satisfactorily answered by the guys at NewCarsTest on YouTube who recorded a whole bunch of 2016 Porsche 991 Carrera S models at the Hockenheim the other day, giving you not just a demo of the soundtrack, but also a walkaround of the new Porch. Check it:
2016 Porsche 991 features a twin-turbo 3.0-liter flat-six engine developing 370 horsepower in Carrera and 420 horsepower in the Carrera S model. This will probably not sit well with the purists who are still upset about the demise of the hydraulic steering in the 991, the death of manual gearbox in the GT3 models, and the addition of rear-steering in the GT3 and Turbo models. But with the Cayman getting stronger and stronger everyday, Porsche needed to give the 911 something to set it apart from its genius little brother, and they decided to go with a couple of turbos.
