The battle between Mazda MX-5 and Toyota GT86 has sort of become like the battle between the new hypercars. If you like one better than the other, you just don’t care if objectively, your car is inferior. Still, for those who want to keep an open mind, here’s a head to head track test between the two greatest affordable sports car in the market right now.

The 2015 Mazda MX-5 is a bit newer than Toyota GT86, but the latter has some redeeming features that balances that out. It is more powerful and has a boxer engine, plus a solid roof. So yes, this is going to be interesting:

You really can’t go wrong with either of these rear-wheel-drive sports car as both of them are great driver’s cars. The thing is, it seems you will be getting more with the Mazda. It’s a nice looking, well-appointed roadster with sweet handling and decent economy. That just seems more on the line with the needs of the modern motorists than Toyota’s boxer-engined funster with a rubbish interior and overcompensating rear end.
