For some reason Cadillac has been quite economical with press materials about the new luxury SUV, the XT5. It took them a couple of months from showing us the first photos to release the official details and pictures of the car. So here’s the 2017 Cadillac XT5 in all its crossover glory.
The first of four new crossovers by the American car maker, 2017 Cadillac XT5 puts more emphasis on Caddy’s traditional values such as comfort and luxury rather than performance and sportiness, which are new qualities pursued by their sedan models. Boasting a new chassis design, the XT5 is 100 pounds (45 kg) lighter than the Audi Q5 and a whopping 650 pounds (295 kg) lighter than Mercedes GLE.
That means the car is more agile and more economical than you would expect a Caddy full of leather and wood. The crossover comes with a 3.6-liter V6 packing 310-horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. It has a Active Fuel Management cylinder deactivation system, but if you want a real four-banger Cadillac also supplies 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine with Stop/Start technology. Both units come with an 8-speed automatic transmission but “twin clutch” all-wheel drive system is optional.
As for technology features, 2017 Cadillac XT5 is well-appointed with stuff like a new camera mirror system with a high dynamic range camera and a video processing software which “removes” obstacles such as the roof, rear pillars and rear seat passengers.
