In a new promotional video designed to raise awareness about the dangers of texting while driving, Porsche strapped their top Works driver Mark Webber in a 911 RSR racing machine and let him loose on the race track. The idea was to see if Mark, who is accomplished racing driver, could handle texting while behind the wheel.

So half way around the track somebody called Ann – we’re assuming Mark’s wife – started sending him pointless texts on his Blackberry which, by the day, is a Porsche Design model. Here’s what happened:

Granted, it’s a race track and not a street where Mark Webber is trying this. But high speed and the tricky corners make up for lack of traffic and pedestrians. So if he goes off the track here, chances are he would have run over some children had he done this on public roads. At any rate, it is kind of fun watching a driver like Webber making boo-boos. One tends to see these guys as superheroes manhandling those super fast, super tricky machines.
