2016 NAIAS: Lexus LC 500

Lexus turned up at the 2016 Detroit Motor Show with an astonishing car, the long awaited production version of the LF-LC concept. It is frankly gobsmacking how beautiful this 2017 Lexus LC 500 is, and how defiant it is in terms of specs.

Whatever criticism you might have of Lexus design, especially their later model like the RC and NX, will melt away as soon as you feast your eyes on the gorgeous thing that is the Lexus LC 500. The car is large and impressive, and it features a pair of headlights that must be the sexiest ever fitted to any car. The LC is a 2+2 coupe with a wheelbase of over 2.8 meters, low-slung profile, “emotional” and “sensual” curves, and a big non-turbo V8 engine.

That’s what we mean when we say it’s defiant. You would think there isn’t really a market for a such car in today’s age of compact design and turbo motors. But Lexus has such confidence in the design of the LC 500, they just don’t care. Design is pretty much the only selling point of this car. Not that the powertrain is rubbish, but it’s the same 467 hp V8 you find in the RC F mated to the same 8-speed automatic, and suffice to say it is not the best in its class.

As you would expect, 2017 Lexus LC 500 is chockfull of the latest safety, security, and convenience features the Japanese car maker has to offer. You get an optional carbon fiber roof, multi-link sport suspension, and a super deluxe interior with an available Mark Levinson audio package.
