There is no particular reason why would you want to enter a station wagon into a touring race. But back in the day Volvo decided to do that in the British Touring Car Championship, and turned out it was quite a cool thing to do. Now Team BMR is going to pick up where they left off with the Subaru Levorg Tourer BTCC.
The ballsy decision to compete in the 2016 BTCC with a Tourer vehicle, especially a first-timer like Subaru, speaks volumes about the confidence Team BMR have in their engineering team and their famous driver Jason Plato. The specs of the Subaru Levorg Tourer BTCC are yet to be revealed, but Subaru UK has put it full support behind the project as BMR develops the chassis and engine for the race car based on the production components.
Jason Plato said “Part of my role when joining BMR was to help secure a manufacturer deal. The iconic Subaru brand has always been right at the top of my wish list, obviously it goes without saying that I am very excited about our future together and I’m confident that BMR will produce a fantastic package for me to fight for the Championship. This really is exciting times for us all… I can’t wait for the season to begin.”
