As is often the case with the world’s top motorsport events, stuff happening on the side at this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans were actually more fun and exciting than the race itself. Take the drivers parade, for example. It featured cars like the new Ford GT and an all-black version of the Bugatti Chiron.

The black Bugatti Chiron continues what this brown example did at the Nurburgring 24h which was steal the thunder of the main event. Just look how crazy the crowd go for this car and compare it to the enthusiasm they showed to the race itself:

The story of Bugatti Chiron is an amazing one. You almost get the feeling this car was built because of a dare. Somebody dared Volkswagen to make a 1,000 super car, so they did the Veyron. Then people kept saying they couldn’t possibly better themselves, so they made the Vitesse and the SuperSport and all those other variants. Now they have come up with something that tops all of those things and raises the bar even higher. The Chiron has 1,500 horsepower and leaves the Veyron for dead in a top speed race. VW used to say they lost money on every Veyron they sold. By that reckoning, and the production of the Chiron, they must have been bankrupt by now. Turns out they were lying. Well, not the first time!
