This is one of the first opportunities we have to see what can professional chip tuning do with the new turbocharged engine in the latest Porsche 991 Carrera (991.2) models. The car is a standard Carrera with the 370 hp engine, and the tuner is Mcchip-DKR.
Granted, if you want more than 400 horsepower you can go straight for the Porsche 991 Carrera S which has 420 hp out of the box. But what if you’ve already ended up with a base 3.0 liter Carrera? Well, that’s where Mcchip comes in with an electronic treatment for the engine which pushed the output to beyond what you get from the factory-standard Carrera S.
With a few hours of work and some serious software trickery, Mcchip-DKR manages to boost the power output of the Porsche 991 Carrera turbocharged flat-six engine from the standard 370 hp and 450 Nm of torque to a much more satisfying 429 horsepower with 530 Nm of torque. That is a huge gain of almost 60 horsepower and it makes you think what these guys can do with a Carrera S.
So there you have it. The flat-six engine of the Carrera has not lost any of its upgradability in becoming turbocharged at the factory. If anything, it is now more tolerant of upgrades than ever before.
