Turns out Koenigsegg are going to have to wait a bit longer to fulfill their ambitions in becoming the new king of the Nurburgring, as the only car that could get them there is now destroyed. In one of its attempts yesterday to set a new ‘Ring lap record, the only factory-owned Koenigsegg One:1 crashed heavily and suffered tremendous damage.

Luckily, the test driver walked away from the horrific accident with only a bruised ego but no bodily harm. While a professional analysis of the crash is yet to be done by, well, crash experts, looking at the state of the car and what it has done to the guardrails, one can deduce the Koenigsegg One:1 had been carrying a lot of speed at the moment of impact. Say what you want about the driver, but the guy has cojones.

This crash might proves once again that if you are adamant your car should have more than 1,300 horsepower, four-wheel-drive is an absolute must. That kind of power handled only through the rear wheels is recipe for disaster, especially in a car as brutal and as distasteful for electronic aids as the Koenigsegg One:1. The Swedish auto maker has announced they are going to rebuild the wrecked One:1 and they might even come back and keep trying for a record.
