McLaren fans used to make fun of Ferrari and Lamborghini for those selling branded merchandise, taking pride in the fact that the British car maker would never stoop so low. Well, they can’t do that anymore thanks to this, an electric McLaren P1 toy car they will soon start selling at McLaren Automotive retailers around the world or £375.
They are pretty jolly about it, too, releasing witty press material about the McLaren P1 toy car, calling it the latest development of their electric car division and making Hickory Dickory Dock references. It is only a matter of time before McLaren comes up with branded aftershave and underwear, which, since it’s McLaren, will be very light and available as a Spider with an open front.
That said, the McLaren P1 toy car, as far these things go, is a pretty cool one. It’s rather pricey, but the design is wonderfully loyal to the original hyper car and it comes as standard with a MP3 system with the nursery rhyme pre-programmed in it. It only comes in Volcano Yellow and has a top speed of 3mph which it achieves in two seconds. It is designed for six-year-olds, after all. McLaren wants to make a few quids here, not battle lawsuit for broken teeth and sprained ankles.
