Even though it is just a toned down version of the Gran Turismo concept, or perhaps exactly because of it, the design of Bugatti Chiron has been chosen by the German Design Council as the winner in the “Exterior Premium Brand – Luxury” category. So, there you go, as if Bugatti needed an ego boost!
Not that Bugatti Chiron doesn’t have a totally awesome design, but we reckon if instead of German Design Council it was Italian or French design council the car probably wouldn’t have come first. The Chiron has a very neat and tidy design where everything’s in its place and every stylistic feature also has a technical function. That is what the German experts find appealing, which is fair enough. But if they were to judge the car based on how much art there is in its design, it’d probably be beaten by something like the Alfa 4C, a car whose bonnet is bolted shut and has a 1.8 liter engine!
“The Bugatti design team is extremely pleased about this award,” said Achim Anscheidt, Chief Designer of Bugatti, at the awards ceremony held in Paris on Thursday evening. “The stylistic challenge posed for us designers by the tension between Bugatti’s traditional brand DNA and the need to adapt the exterior design of the car to the technical requirements of this ultimate 1,500 PS super sports car was enormous. Honours like this and the extremely positive reaction of our customers and fans to the Chiron confirm that we adopted the right approach.”
