Only a few years ago the very idea of pitting a hatchback against a V8 muscle car for a drag race would have been discarded as utterly ridiculous. These days, however, with all the advancement we have made in the art of turbocharging, it is possible for a little hot hatch like the new Ford Focus RS to take on a V8 bruiser like its big brother, Ford Mustang GT.
Although there is a considerable horsepower difference between these two, the deficit doesn’t hurt Ford Focus RS that much because it is lighter and more agile. That is why the performance figures are fairly close and, as I’m sure you have already guessed, the result of this race is pretty close as well:
Just to recap, the new Ford Focus RS has a 2.3 liter EcoBoost engine with 345 horsepower whereas the Mustang GT packs a 5.0 liter V8 with 425 hp. And can we just say how good it was seeing good old Tommy Ford back on a TG video?
