So the order books went open a few days ago for the all-new 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor, and you expected the orders came pouring in. The high-performance truck is selling like it’s some sort of exotica with 300 people already on the waiting list, which is astonishing for a car of this class, especially when you take into account that it has a starting price of $49,520.
The Americans love their F-150s though, and as it turns out they love them well-appointed and with a powerful engine and rugged looks. Those are the qualities the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor gives its buyers. But even so, a lot of people have ordered them with some sort of extras, with the most popular value-added packages being the SuperCrew (91%), Luxury Group (90%), and Technology Package (77%).
In the first 10 days that the new Raptor has been available to order online more than 90,000 people have used the configurator and 30,000 have completed builds. Most of these are from kids with nothing better to do, but even if 20 percent of these turn into orders that’ll be a huge success for Ford. And it’s not just online orders, either. Ford’s dealers are said to be turning away customers due to supply allocation limits.
“It’s a great problem to have, but it’s tough because there’s so much interest in the product,” said Steve Olliges, the owner of Team Ford dealerhsip in Las Vegas. “We do everything we can to get our hands on Raptors for our customers, whether that’s referring them to other Ford dealers or making calls to find trucks for them.”
