Well, i took five years to make the final decision and finally go ahead with a project that was a no-brainer from the get-go. We’re, of course, talking about the Lamborghini Urus SUV project which is finally shifting into production gear next year. It’s a definite go and the company has undergone a fairly large expansion to accommodate it.
The main part of this expansion for SUV production has been hiring 400 new people for the job, with perhaps a brand new hiring strategy, which brings the total of Lamborghini employees to an all-time high 1,500. Over the past decade alone the workforce of the Italian exotic maker has been doubled, a fact that speaks volume about the success of their business. From January to June 2017, deliveries to customers of the Aventador model reached 691 units (+7%). Its success is highlighted by unit number 7,000 that will be produced in the next few weeks. Same with Huracan; 1,400 units delivered in the first six months of 2017 (+2%).

Making Lamborghini Urus SUV also reacquires additional factory space and work in underway for an expansion of the production site from 80,000 m2 to 160,000 m2. Part of the expansion is the building of a new office building featuring the highest standard in the world for energy and environmental certification in construction. Of course, none of this will gurantee the success of the Urus. That would be down to the way it looks and the whether it truly is the Lamborghini of sport utility vehicles, which means whether it’s the fastest.
