In a window of about two months, Porsche went ahead and introduced a new facelift version of the 991-generation 911, a Targa version of that model, and now a couple of Turbo versions. There are so many different variants of the 911 these days, they sort of have to cram them in like this. So please welcome the 2016 Porsche 991 Turbo and Turbo S.

Now, if you are not a hard-core 911 fan and you have been following the new-look version closely, you are thoroughly confused right now. You are probably thinking the 911 Carrera is turbocharged, so what is this new Turbo you are speaking of? Well, think of it this way: that one was the small turbo, this one is the big Turbo. Whereas the Carrera has a 3.0 liter turbo engine, the 2016 Porsche 991 Turbo boasts a 3.8-litre flat-six twin-turbo unit that pumps out 540 horsepower in normal and 58 horsepower in ’S’ guise.

What is more, both models now benefit from what Porsche calls ‘dynamic boost function’ to further raise engine responsiveness in dynamic operation by maintain boost in the system. Performance-wise, the 2016 Porsche 991 Turbo sprints to 62 mph (100 km/h), in Coupe body style, in 3.0 seconds dead while the Turbo S does in 2.9 seconds. The top speed is 198 mph (320 km/h) for the Turbo and 205 mph (330 km/h) for the Turbo S. In terms of fuel economy, you can expect something around 30 mpg on average.

Other highlights of 2016 Porsche 991 Turbo and Turbo S include a revised design with new engine cover and rear bumper, new rear wing, and tweaked front grille inserts, new GT sport steering wheel, Sport Chrono Package with Mode Switch and Sport Response button, new design 20-inch diameter wheels, and Bose audio system.

Price-wise, the Turbo Coupe starts from £126,925 ($159,200 – 174,669 euros) and the Turbo S £145,773 ($188,100 – 202,872 euros). The Convertible variants starts at £135,766 ($171,500 – 187,759 euros) for the Turbo and £154,614 ($200,400 – 215,962 euros) for the Turbo S.
