A few days ahead of its global debut at the New York Auto Show we get a glimpse of what the new 2018 Subaru Outback is all about. And no, it hasn’t changed dramatically over the current version, but then you don’t mess with a good recipe, do you? You just tweak it a little bit every time and that is what’s been done here.
So as for what tweaks the 2018 Subaru Outback boasts, on the outside there is now a more rugged look courtesy of wider, lower grille openings and a new bumper that complement the iconic Subaru hexagonal grille. There is also C-shaped headlights, arking lights and new horizontal character lines, “Konoji” daytime LED running lights. and new wheel designs – 2.5i base and Premium trims equipped with standard 17-inch alloy wheels, and all Limited and Touring models offer 18-inch alloy wheels.

The new 2018 Subaru Outback also gets a good tech upgrade, what with the addition of available new Steering Responsive Headlights (SRH), EyeSight Driver Assist Technology feature High Beam Assist, and electric steering. There is also an available 8-inch display screen for enhanced multimedia capabilities. In terms of performance, he Outback 2.5i is powered by a 175-hp double overhead cam (DOHC) 2.5-liter BOXER engine that produces 174 lb-ft peak torque, while the 3.6-liter 6-cylinder BOXER engine in the Outback 3.6R produces 256 hp and 247 lb-ft of peak torque. Both versions are capable off roaders thanks to standard Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (AWD) and Active Torque Vectoring.
