Scion Racing unveiled a Formula Drift version of the new FR-S sports car at the 2012 Detroit Motor Show.
Built jointly by Scion and GReddy – a performance-products company that has been involved with Toyota and racing for over twenty years – this car will be competing in the 2012 Formula DRIFT series with veteran driver Ken Gushi.
The standard FR-S with its dismal 200 hp can drift, but you have to poke it with a stick and kinda wrestle it into a powerslide. To get round that problem the FR-S drift car doesn’t have 200 hp, no, it has a massive 600 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque. With that much power even my granny can drift!
Scion hasn’t revealed details of the powertrain, but if it’s the same 2.0 lite boxer engine they put in the standard car, then it must have some ginormous turbochargers and intercoolers.
Hankook, KW suspension and Rays are among the companies helpd developing this car with their racing parts.
