Those present at the 59th Annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance had the chance to see a 3D computer generated image of the all new Infiniti M luxury saloon which will be launched in 2011. We only have 2D images for the time being, and that’s fairly enough because honestly there is not much to see! After all it’s just a posh Nissan, and it also looks a bit dull!
It is obvious that they had the Infiniti Essence concept in mind while drawing this, and they’ve captured the essence of the essence and out it in this car. But the problem is the M model itself which is a boring executive sedan. It’s not that bad of course, in comparison to the old models it’s become more curvy which must mean it’s more elegant. However it utterly fails to be a sporty design. Everytime I look at it I think it’s a buffed up Altima.
The new M like its predecessors will be offered with V6 and V8 engines in M37 and M56 models. That is for the American market, Europeans will get a V6 diesel instead of the V8. The car is packed with safety equipments and luxury features. It comes with new stuffs like top-notch audio system or a clever climate control and the overall quality is also enhanced.
I test drove one of these. It was very plush although from a drivers perspective it seemed like it was removed from the road. No sense of driver input, perhaps a bit too dampend. As a comparison I would rate it against the new Suzuki Kizashi, which I tested in the GTS trim. Kizashi is a bit more compact but similarly equipped, and the Kizashi isn’t quite as plush inside as the M37 but pretty close. The main difference is in driving, I found the Kizashi to be more more driver oriented, and not so disconnected feeling like the M37 is. For an older person though, lets say perhaps 60 or older, the M37 would be fine. Someone wanting a more sporty feel but still in luxury dress might consider the Kizashi a better choice, and it doesn’t hurt that even the most decked out version of Kizashi the GTS equipped with Nav and AWD is about 15 to 20 grand (usd) less than M37!
I agree with some of the other posts here. This car is nowhere near “dull” as the writer of the article suggests. This new M carries hints of the design of Infiniti’s G, and as well a few hints of the no longer produced Q. With the success the G series has had recently evidently designers at Infiniti feel that look might go well in a larger car with a few more ammenities. I agree with them. KUDOS to Infiniti’s design team for the design and to Infiniti’s management for backing them and bringing this car to fruition!
Do these idiots have any taste in cars or do they get paid to be “critics”…unless a BMW has been refreshed….each generation of the M has been a quantum leap and has led not followed…check C and D and Motortrend comparo’s…posh nissan? which one is similar to the M? Dull? Compared to what exactly…the camry he is driving?
