Hennessey Performance is going to make 5 Spyder versions of the 1,200 hp Venom GT, each with a staggering price of $1.1 million.

That sounds like an awful lot for a car that although special, is based on a Lotus Elise! That is actually why they could make a Spyder version, because of the Lotus connection and how its roof is easily removable.

But, this is the car the even Bugatti Veyron SS is scared of. The 1,200 hp Venom is a true American hero and has a top speed of 275 mph. Be careful though, doing 270 with no roof on is not going to be a pleasant experience.

It’s hard to see the point of the Venom Spyder, because it is a car designed mainly for speed. But with the roof down you are not going to go fast, and it certainly isn’t a comfortable drop-top for pottering around the town in. Still, Here’s how Hennessey justifies it:

“With the hardtop in place, the Venom GT offers a very visceral, raw, driving experience”, company CEO Don Goldman explained in a statement. “With the hardtop removed, the wind and the growl of the twin turbo V8 will offer our clients an even greater driving sensation.”
