Infiniti once again confirmed debut of its new advanced electric sports car at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, and this time revealed a name for it as well.

The concept car is called the EMERG-E. Silly name? Well, maybe. But the car itself is actually pretty serious. It features the latest range-extender drivetrain offering great performance with zero emissions.

That is of course very good. The car’s party piece though is the fact that the electric powertrain is located right in the middle of the car. That is the characteristic of a proper sports car. With the Emerg-e Infiniti is going after the Tesla Roadster.

The question is, will cars like this manage to give us what the current petrol-powered sports car give? Will they be just as good?
