1,500 horsepower is a staggering amount of power in a car, especially when the car in question is a 2012 Camaro! And what’s really interesting is that we’re not talking about a dragster or anything like that. It is a completely street-legal Chevrolet Camaro. Created by Nelson Super Cars, this beast is powered by a twin-turbo 4.6 liter LS3 engine. Just about the only visual difference between this and you run of the mill Camaro is the SST badge on it, and a carbon hood.

So what’s it like to drive a 1,500 hp car? Pretty bloody awesome. Check out this 28-minute long video to see how the car was built in full details. There’s also footage of it going for a test drive.

Just touching the throttle is enough to make this Camaro turn most of its rear tires into smoke. They have swapped the original gearbox with a  4L85E unit  – this engine would destroy the stock gearbox – but still, 1,500 hp is pretty hard to harness. As mentioned the car is still street-legal, but it has been fitted with race car safety features such as roll cage and safety net, just in case!

It is pretty heartwarming to know that now you can have 1,500 horsepower for just $200K.
