Yep, Honda’s latest product is a lawn mower. It is quite a remarkable thing though, as it’s the first commercial robotic product for domestic use. They call it the Miimo, and it can mow your lawn everyday, once programed, with minimal human interaction. This, to all intents and purposes, is the Ferrari of lawn mowers!

The Miimo has features that boggle the mind. It uses a sophisticated algorithm and cuts in a random pattern, meaning less stress on the grass, more healthy growth and reduced moss and weeds. at each cycles it cuts only 2 to 3mm but it does it several times each week. What’s more, it has a fan inside it that sucks the grass towards the blades, ensuring a superior finish.

Honda’s robotic lawn mower doesn’t need to collect cuttings, as the clippings it creates are so small that they are dispersed into the lawn root system, breaking down quickly to act as a natural fertiliser.

All the great mowing features aside, one interesting technology the Miimo is blessed with is what enables it to navigate around the perimeter set for it. It uses an intelligent combination of controls, timers and real-time sensory feedback, and know its confinements through a boundary wire. Honda Miimo features three independent 360 degree ‘bump’ sensors, which detect a solid contact between it and any obstacle. If a bump sensor is activated, it will stop, turn and move away from the point of contact in a different direction.

Powered by a high performance, long-life lithium-ion battery, it is self-charging, constantly monitoring its battery level and returning to its docking station when it needs to recharge.
