50 Years of Porsche 911 Celebrated in Style at Goodwood

One of the most significant parts of Porsche 911’s 50th anniversary celebration events was a special display of all generations of the car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Famous for being one of the finest and most prestigious annual motoring events, Goodwood was the perfect venue to show how the world’s best luxury sports car has evolved since its introduction back in 1963.

Over 820,000 Porsche 911s have been built since 1963, and examples of each of its seven generations were present at the 2013 Festival of Speed.

The latest Porsche 911, Type 991, may have become larger and heavier, and a bit too computerized for 911 purists’ taste, but that is moving with the times. The 911 is still the finest car in its class, the most fun to drive on road and track. So who cares if it has an electric steering or a fancy transmission with an unfathomable name, as long as they manage to capture the essence of the first 911 and put it into the latest models.
