SSC Tuatara 600x434 at SSC Tuatara Finally Coming, Priced at $1.3 Million

Looks like America’s answer to Bugatti Veyron, the SSC Tuatara, is finally ready to roll as the latest reports suggest the company is readying the first production units for delivery in December this year or early 2014. The built to order hyper car has a starting price of $1.3 million USD; the same as LaFerrari and McLaren P1.

The Tuatara has been ready for launch for quite a while, but the reason they are holding back is because this car’s main purpose it to snatch Bugatti Veyron SuperSport’s world record as the fastest production car. That means it has to be faster than 267.8 mph (430.98 km/h), and that is a tall order.

It would be an embarrassment if the Tuatara fails to accomplish that goal, so until SSC is 100 percent sure the car is capable of doing that kind of speed, they won’t let it out of the factory.

To help it achieve its ultimate goal of beating the mighty Veyron, the SSC Tuatara has been given a heart of gold. It’s a 6.9 liter twin-turbo V8 unit capable of 1,300 horsepower, with potential to make as much as 1,700 horsepower with a certain type of fuel. The car also boasts crazy aerodynamics and chassis technology. Can’t wait to see the finished product in action.
