The first official pictures of the new generation Honda Fit (or Jazz, as it’s known in some markets), have become available. They confirm what we saw before in the leaked photos – that the new Fit gets a cool new design, heavily inspired by the firm’s sportier models such as the Civic hatchback.

Boasting lots of sharp and aggressive angles, sports bumpers and all-new head and taillights, the new Fit is a totally different car than the outgoing model. It looks more alive and vivid; as if Honda deliberately wanted to scare off the old ladies that make up a large part of Fit buyers, and attract younger people to the car. Job done, we think.

The new Fit/Jazz is as up to date underneath as it looks on the outside. The car will come with a choice of powertrains including a sophisticated new hybrid. It consists of an inline 4-cylinder 1.5L Atkinson cycle, coupled to Honda’s Earth Dreams Intelligent Dual Clutch Drive (i-DCD) drivetrain. Honda promises 36.4 km for this system, which is about 3 liters per 100 km, or nearly 100 UK mpg. It also offers a pure electric mode.

The hybrid will obviously be the most popular version of the new Fit. But there will also be a range of petrol and diesels available, details of which are yet to be revealed.
