Chevrolet has confirmed the launch of the new Corvette Z06, the high-performance version of the standard Corvette Stingray C7, at the 2014 Detroit Motor Show next month. And no, it’s not a typo. The car is actually called the Z06 and not the Z07, which is a bit weird.

Chevy has not released any further details about the 2015 Corvette Z06, apart from the fact that it will be the most track-capable Corvette ever, boasting unique powertrain, chassis and aerodynamic features. They also released the adjacent teaser picture, which shows bits of the aero kit, new wheels, and what appear to be semi-slick Michelin tires.

Speculation and rumors suggest that the 2015 Corvette Z06 will have at least 600 horsepower. That sounds like a bit of a leap, considering that the standard Stingray is one helluva performer with 450 horsepower. But then some other rumor says the Z06 will not be powered by the Stingray’s LT1 V8, an will get a new turbocharged unit. We are going to find out about that soon enough.

The 2015 Corvette Z06 will complete Chevy’s performance lineup which comprises the Stingray, Camaro Z/28 and SS sedan.
