First Retail 2015 Corvette Z06 to be Auctioned for Charity

One of the finest new trends in the auto world, at least in America, is that car makers auction off the first retail production unit of their new models for charity. The latest new model to hit the auction block is the 2015 Corvette Z06, and its sales is going to benefit the Karmanos Cancer Institute.

This of course is not the first Corvette to be auctioned off for a good cause. Last year the first 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible raised $1 million for another cancer research center at a Barrett-Jackson auction.

The Z06 in theory should do better, because it is a much hotter proposition than the Stingray Convertible. All proceeds from the auction will go to the renovation of the Institute’s infusion center, providing a more comfortable and soothing setting for patients to receive chemotherapy treatments.

2015 Corvette Z06 is powered by a LT4 6.2L supercharged V-8 engine features direct injection, Active Fuel Management and continuously variable valve timing, and makes at least 620 horsepower. The car also features the latest technologies in lightweight construction, drivetrain systems, and onboard connectivity features.

The first 2015 Corvette Z06 will be auctioned by Barrett-Jackson auction house during its Collector Car Auction in Palm Beach, Fla., on April 12. The winning bidder will receive a letter of authenticity, as well as the ability to select the color of his or her new car.
