McLaren’s teasing campaign for their new sports car is rather a romantic one. They call it a ‘black swan’ moment, hinting at the fact that their car is startlingly different from anything this class has ever experienced. In any case, they really have to come up with a better name than McLaren Sports Series.

Hopefully that is just a codename for the project and by the time it is ready to be launch it will get a nicer name like P13 or something. But the car itself is an absolute cracker, taking the sports car game, according to McLaren, to a whole new height.

Things that we know about the MSS so far: The car features a carbon fiber tub like the P1 and 650 which means it will be light and agile, but easy to write off, since carbon tubs are not easy to repair in case of a crash; it is powered by the same 3.8 liter twin-turbo V8 as the 650S, but at a lower state of tune with around 450 to 500 horsepower; and, based on the latest teaser, it will have butterfly doors.

So all the evidence suggest that McLaren Sports Series is going to be fine sports car. To know for sure, we need to know how it looks and how much it is going to cost. Only then it can be fairly judged.
