There are only a few cars in the world whose mishaps and misfortunes would make news. Porsche 918 Spyder is definitely one of them, and it would definitely make headlines if you crash it into a tree and pretty much wreck it.

That is what happened to an unlucky 918 owner in Shanghai, China. Well, maybe unlucky is not the right word, because the guy was ‘lucky’ enough to be able to buy a 918. Maybe reckless or incompetent are better words to describe him.

In any case, the driver of this titanium-colored Porsche 918 Spyder managed to wrap it around a tree, presumably going way faster than he should have been. Hitting trees used to be the 911’s thing, since they have their engines at the back and suffer occasionally from extreme bouts of oversteer. But the 918 too seems to have a talent for spinning out of control.

Those who posted the pictures of this crash on Instagram made sure to capture it from every angle. They didn’t, however, bother to enquire into the condition of the car’s occupants.
