Aston Martin Vantage GT3 to be Renamed Amid Porsche Complaint

There are a lot of things in the auto world – from cars, to body kits, even racing series – called ‘GT3’. But Porsche, who apparently owns the right to the GT3 nameplate, is now feeling threatened by Aston Martin’s latest model, the Vantage GT3.

Porsche has reportedly contacted Aston and asked the Brits to change the name of the Vantage GT3, or face the consequences. Knowing Porsche is more experienced than them in handling lawsuits, Aston decided to comply and is now said to be pondering the name GT12 for their latest sports car. One can’t help but think about the pre WWII treaties dictated by Hitler and invariably accepted by Chamberlain!

One reason Porsche is now all of a sudden sweating another company’s use of the GT3 name could be because they believe the new Aston Martin Vantage GT3 is a properly good car, one that could potentially do a lot of damage to the reputation of their own GT3 model. The Vantage GT3 is more powerful at nearly 600 PS and it is massively better looking. But in terms of dynamics and all that, the Germans have nothing to worry about. To use that WWII analogy again, Porsche 991 GT3 is like the Wehrmacht at its prime, and the Aston like the British Expeditionary Force at Dunkirk.
