After making an immense amount of noise in 2013, last year Toyota GT86 and its twin sister Subaru BRZ were largely quiet. Now the latter is back on the headlines with the Subaru BRZ STI Performance Concept, unveiled at the New York Auto Show, which is a heavily tricked-out BRZ showcasing what you can achieve with this car.

Subaru BRZ STI Performance is by no means a production model. It is not even a teaser for a less extravagant STi version of the sports car. All it does is make some hype for the expansion of STI business in the Unites States. They say the in-house tuning firm will in the near future offer upgrade parts for the BRZ’s suspension, brakes, engine, aerodynamic and chassis, but they refuse to get into details.

The world has waited enough for a high-performance GT86/BRZ, so if they have something worthwhile they better just out with it. This thing is getting boring and if they dillydally around any longer, everybody’s going to turn to the new Mazda MX-5 which has already got two new editions with custom extras.

The NYIAS Subaru BRZ STI Performance Concept features a very well-designed aero kit with sport bumpers, wings and sills, plus subtle STI detailing, carbon aero kit, larger wheels, sport lowered suspension, and, apparently, an engine from Subaru BRZ Super GT race car. If only they had the guts to turn this into a production model…
