As we get closer to September and the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, car companies start to preview their main debuts. One of the most important debuts of this year’s IAA is the Ferrari 488 Spider which has now been unveiled in full glory.

The open-top version of the 488 GTB, as expected, features a similar roof arrangement to its predecessor the 458 Spider. The RHT (Retractable Hard Top) has many benefits over a traditional soft top, including better cockpit comfort, nicer look, and surprisingly lower weight seeing as it’s a pretty rigid structure itself.

It takes the electric roof 14 seconds to go from fully erect to completely gone. When it’s up, Ferrari 488 Spider is basically a coupe. When the roof is down the 488 is still the most aerodynamically efficient Ferrari spider ever built thanks to clever design of the base car.

The rest of Ferrari 488 Spider is identical to its hardtop brother, meaning that it is powered by a 670 horsepower mid-mounted turbocharged V8 engine – the most powerful in Ferrari’s history. The engine is big enough not to worry the driver about turbo lag and enables the Spider to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 3 seconds flat and from 0 to 200 km/h in 8.7 seconds.

The Ferrari 488 Spider shown here is wearing a new color called Blu Corsa. More pictures and details will be released in time for the Frankfurt International Motor Show in September.
