Methodical as ever, Porsche waited for the new Macan crossover to get its feet grounded in the market with its three-model lineup, and then dropped a hot new version to attract even more customers. Thus, Porsche Macan GTS arrives with revised looks, re-engineered chassis, 20 hp more power and uprated brakes.

Being a GTS, of course, this new Macan is not a range-topping model, as it slots between the S and the Turbo. But it is the sportiest, and with 360 hp and 500 Nm of torque, Porsche Macan GTS is not short on power, either. The car comes with Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) seven-speed transmission and Porsche Traction Management (PTM), four-wheel-drive, and a new sport exhaust system.

Performance-wise, the GTS does 0-62 mph acceleration in 5.2 secs – 5.0 secs with the optional Sport Chrono package – and has a top speed is 160 mph. With that kind of agility, the 31.4 mpg average fuel consumption sounds pretty good.

Another highlight of Porsche Macan GTS that makes it worth considering over the Macan S has to with its chassis. The Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) in this car is tuned to sit 15mm lower than usual, and it works with a set of 20-inch wheels with RS Spyder design. What’s more, the brakes are uprated in this model to cope with that 20 extra horsepower it’s packing.

As for the looks, the 2016 Porsche Macan GTS is distinguished by exterior accents in black and Sport Design styling package on the outside, and ‘GTS’ sport seats with Alcantara centre panels and trims on the inside. Available from today, this model is priced at £55,188 in the UK and 73,400 euros in Europe. In America the car will launch in March 2016 with a base price of $67,200.
