Being the favorite car of pop culture celebrities as well as British footballers, Bentley Continental GT does not get as much credit as its superb power and awesome performance deserves. Most people think of this car as a luxury barge. But stallion can shift. Really shift.

So after more than a decade in production, Bentley decided it’s about time to prove once and for all what their best selling model is capable of when unleashed. So, inspired by Top Gear, they took a Bentley Continental GT Speed to the Australian Outback, strapped an Aussie race car driver in it, and let it loose.

With 635 PS (626 bhp) and 820 Nm (607 lb.ft) on the tap, the W12-powered Bentley Continental GT Speed managed to clock a top speed of 206 mph (331 km/h) on Stuart Highway. Come to think of it, they could have done this in Germany. There was no need to travel all the way to the wilderness of the outback.

John Bowe, the driver who said the record, said: “This isn’t a modified racecar; it’s a luxurious grand touring road car fresh off the production line. It took us a little over a minute to go from a standstill to 206 mph. That’s extraordinary. Even when you break through the 200 mph barrier, the GT Speed just keeps accelerating.”
