We have already shown you the pictures of the new Porsche 911 R in our previous coverage. But now the sports car has been unwrapped at the Geneva Motor Show and we can bring you the full technical details. This is probably the only car in the world whose facts and figures are sexier than the way it looks!

So let’s cut right to the chase: 2017 Porsche 911 R comes with a 500 hp (368 kW) four-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six engine driving the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. That “stick” is the biggest highlight of this back-to-basics model. A lightweight body and exclusive design elements are among the other notable features.

Basically a manual 991 GT3 RS, the 1,370 kilograms Porsche 911 R can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 201 mph (323 km/h). But outright performance is not this car’s party piece. That’d be the manual gearbox which enables the drive to have a lot of old-fashioned fun, while relying on modern features like Porsche Stability Management (PSM) and Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) to keep him out of trouble.

Limited to 991 units and available to order right now for £136,901 (UK pricing), the 911 R is pitched as a “wolf in sheep’s clothing” which refers to its rather simple looks that mask a vicious character. This theme continues inside with the GT sport steering wheel, short shift gearlever and carbon-backed, Pepita tartan-wrapped seats.
