The new Fiat 124 Spider is already getting a number of high-performance variant, including the Abarth 124 for the roads and the Abarth R-GT for rally stages. The latter has been filmed recently rearing up some asphalt on some twisty mountain roads, and it looks, sounds, and goes really promising.

The rally 124 is being prepared for a full time career in 2017, but we’d buy this thing just as a weekend toy because just look at it. Abarth R-GT is like a regular Fiat 124 hopped up on a mixture of Viagra, Red Bull, and crystal meth:

The sprightly performance of Fiat 124 Abarth R-GT Rally Car is the result of employing a WRC-spec 1.8 liter turbo engine which delivers 300 horsepower, or about twice what you get from a regular Abarth 124. Also the car is no longer a Roadster, but really that’s a small price to pay for all that sideways action. This thing can and should inspired tuners to come up with similarly-specced 124s for the road.
