Ford has released new details on some of the new and innovative technical features of the next generation Mustang, coming in 2011 before they preview it at the upcoming L.A. Motor Show. 2011 Ford Mustang is apparently going to be the best handling version of the car ever as it comes with a number upgrades for chassis and suspension. It also gets an all-new Duratec V6 engine developing 305hp and returning 30 MPG.

This new 3.7 liter DOHC Duratec V6 engine is deeply engineered to as sporty and as efficient as possible. It has an aluminum construction and gets some fancy systems like Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) which adjusts the valvetrain in microseconds.

So it delivers 305 hp and 280 ft.-lb of torque. It can be had with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic transmission.

Apart from the performance, this engine is also pretty light on fuel for a car of this type. Equipped with the six-speed automatic transmission, it does 19 mpg city/30 highway which is 25 percent better than the 2010 model. With the six-speed manual it averages 18 mpg city/29 highway.

“Mustang is completely transformed with this new engine,” said Derrick Kuzak, group vice president, Global Product Development. “Everything people love about the car is still there, and now under the hood is a V-6 engine that uses premium technology to deliver the power, the feel, the fuel efficiency, even the sound of the best sports coupes in the world.”

As for the chassis and handling, the new Mustang is significantly upgraded. It comes with a limited-slip differential as standard which directs engine torque to the rear wheel with the most traction, ensuring maximum grip in tricky conditions.

It is also equipped with larger four-wheel ABS disc brakes, with 11.5-inch front and 11.8-inch rear rotors, a 3.31 rear axle ratio for quicker off-the-line acceleration, firmer Mustang GT suspension, a strut tower brace for increased chassis rigidity, unique electronic stability control calibration with sport mode for performance driving, and 19-inch wheels.

Some of the new convenience features you get with the 2011 Ford Mustang include: spotter mirrors, message center, MyKey programmable vehicle key and Universal Garage Door Opener.
