The lovely little Fiat 500 is getting the new Multijet clean diesel engine option for both of its coupe and cabriolet variants. This 16-valve common-rail turbocharged 1.3 liter diesel unit belongs to the second generation of Multijet engines and develops 95 hp and 200 nm of torque. So you don’t expect it to be a serious performer…
And it isn’t of course! 0 to 100 km/h takes 10.7 seconds, and it has a top speed of only 180 km/h. But that’s fairly enough for the regular Fiat 500 buyers. And after all the whole point of diesel engines is economy.
And that’s where this new engine really shines. Equipped with start-stop system and covering the Euro 5 emissions standard, this engine needs only 3.9 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers (average), while emitting only 104 grams of CO2 per kilometer.
Fiat 500 with the Multijet engine starts from 14,000 euros for the hardtop and 16,800 euros for the convertible.
