Chevrolet Volt Electric Vehicle is a highly advance car and GM cannot use traditional advertising method for promoting it. Fortunately, the problem is solved with Microsoft’s new Kinect control-free gaming technology for XboX 360. Volt’s customers will be able to virtually test drive the car in “Kinect Joy Ride”, which is the first controller-free racing game. Apparently you control the car by moving your hands in the air! Something like Nintendo Wii, but without any hardware. Cool!
“Kinect allows us to bring the excitement of the showroom to the living rooms of our customers,” said Jim Campbell, U.S. vice president of Chevrolet marketing. “It’s a way for us to replicate the experience of physically engaging with a product that is essential to the customer’s purchasing decision.”
The key to this particular test-drive is first viewing a video advertisement in-dash on Xbox Live or on the Web, said Chevy in a statement. That action will enable the viewer to “unlock the Chevrolet Volt in ‘Kinect Joy Ride’ to actually drive the car in the game.” Kinect can also take pictures during the game, which players will be able to upload to their favorite social sites.
